What is Figma?

The advanced & cloud-based design Tool, Figma is available on macOS, and Windows, as well as mobile operating systems, iOS and Android.

It makes the work of a designer easy by covering three critical areas.

  1. Prototyping with elements such as wireframes,
  2. Graphic design, including animated interactions, frontend-ready graphics, and a vector graphics editor,
  3. Collaboration with real-time editing.

What about InVision Studio?

InVision Studio Design Solution is used by Tech giants such as Netflix, Amazon, and IBM.

It has features including whiteboarding, brainstorming, wireframes, prototyping, and development with specifications which makes design easier. It has a different set of modules, like InVision Cloud, Studio, DSM, and Enterprise.

Pros and Cons of Figma and InVision

Pros of Figma

  • Easy collaboration — Figma stands out from other UX and UI tools as it combines several stages of software design into one platform. The Software allows designers & developers to work together.
  • Real-time editing — Members can collaborate at the same time, and the changes done to software can be visible to others instantly. The Version history feature allows to track introduced changes.
  • Design system management — The flexible designing system has a directory that helps designers manage design assets. The Software has built-in analytics that help team leaders make the right decisions about design system updates and adoption.
  • Rich prototyping tools — The Software offers attractive prototypes using a range of animations, interactions, visual assets, and dynamic overlays combined with aUI design platform.
  • Easy running and installation -The Web browser is all you need to use Figma, as it doesn’t exclude collaborators with less powerful machines.
  • Great customization — The Software has an open-source library of plugins that allows an unprecedented level of customization. We can also install available plugins & create our own as well.

Cons of Figma

  • Active Internet is a must for using Figma Software, without the Internet it can’t function.
  • The Figma lacks interactivity & transition allowing only limited prototypes.
  • When it comes to the flexibility of software, it comes with a price of complexity as well because it’s a time-consuming learning experience.
  • The Figma Collaboration features let too many contributors & comments to a single file, which is cumbersome. As a result, too much feedback & suggestions make the process complicated.

Pros of InVision

  • Great prototyping — The Invision has extensive prototyping and collaboration capabilities & also has a feedback feature in which users can easily add comments in threads that are embedded in the prototype. The suggested comments can be easily transformed into tasks and are available in the Cloud, which is accessible to the team.
  • Handy Inspect future — Figma can translate graphic files into frontend development-specific specifications. The Developers can easily see patterns & this accelerates the coding process.
  • Integrations with multiple design tools — Invision offers integrations with common design and business tools such as Slack or Sketch, providing seamless transition within the platform.
  • Community — InVision has gained popularity in the market as it has a great user experience & is a steady port for developers & designers.

Cons of InVision

  • The InVision Cloud Studio suite is available only on Desktop. That’s why it makes sense to use these two features in the bundle.
  • High price for larger teams.

Which is better for Your Project? Figma or InVision

The Individual requirements are different according to project needs, and that also implies Software as well. It’s difficult to judge based on software features, as both are functional & have a good user experience.

  • What is your design stack composed of right now?
  • Are you willing to switch to a new platform, or would you rather stick to your current choice?
  • Are your designers open to acquiring new skills?

The question of choosing the best design tool is critical as it depends on Project needs.

The Figma lets you create designs and prototypes. While the prototyping feature is not as extensive as in InVision, you can easily supplement it with a tool called Principle.

The Comprehensive features are not available in InVision, like Figma, but InVision Studio empowers the user experience of creating the prototype with professional tools.
